Here we are in December of 2024, and it’s been twenty-seven years ago since my Grandma Bobby, known as Dr. Janet Travell, passed away in her home in Northampton, Massachusetts. It’s been one hundred and twenty three years since Janet Travell was born. She would be incredibly proud to see how myofascial trigger point therapy has grown into a vast network of practitioners worldwide. While there are still a fair number of people who had the good fortune of personally knowing and working with Janet Travell, I see a need to connect the new generations of myofascial trigger point therapists with Travell’s pioneering work, in order to learn directly from her observations, teachings and writings. She was a many-faceted, larger-than-life, one-of-a-kind human being. It will take time to fill these pages with her life’s work. That is the task ahead of us, and I’m excited to take our readers on this journey together.

She was all that and keeps unfolding still, with each new patient I see and share her legacy of well-being with. Dr. Travell opened up a capacity for mindfulness and curiosity in me that continues to flourish with every new challenge that I encounter in my Myofascial Trigger Pooint work
